New Remax Company
Ann Chaisson, President of Windermere Sea to Sky Real Estate Ltd. recently announced an exciting merger with Remax of Whistler. This results from the sale of Remax of Whistler and a recognition of the advantages of merging the business strengths of Ann Chaisson and the former owner of Remax. The new company now commands 50% of the market share in Whistler and 60% in Squamish, which is fast evolving into the one of the best investment areas of B.C. Denise Salmon is very pleased about the increased benefits she brings to clients as a licensed realtor / agent 9.15 with the new company, now the sole owner of the Remax brand in the Corridor.

Squamish Waterfront Development
The acquisition and management of lands on the community’s oceanfront has been a critical focus for the District over the past two years, and with the agreement nearly complete, the Squamish Waterfront Development Corporation will take over and develop the waterfront lands on behalf of the District.
This broad public consultation and design process has resulted in a detailed waterfront design concept plan for the Howe Sound oceanfront in Squamish. This vision, rooted in principles of sustainability, will guide future land development on Squamish’s newly acquired waterfront property. The final design highlights essential public infrastructure components such as water’s-edge boardwalk and generous public green space. Other key components include the Legacy Arts Centre, hotel/convention centre, multi-modal transportation hub, beach and interpretive area, high-density residential, full-service marina with berths to accommodate passenger ferry service, commercial and light industrial developments.

An agreement on the development of SSU’s first parcel of market housing lands is to be finalized by December 2004. It is anticipated that reservations for its lots and homes will be accepted in the coming months, with closings commencing by April 2005 and construction of the first homes starting shortly thereafter. This parcel, a 47-acre tract located directly west of the SSU campus and immediately south of the new Mashiter Creek Bridge, will accommodate up to 150 single-family homes and 50 town homes.
Terry Partington, SSU’s Director of Real Estate Development, noted that the three-span, 197-metre-long, $3.25 million Mashiter Creek Bridge Project, commenced in March 2004. This main public access to SSU, via Squamish’s Garibaldi Highlands, is scheduled for completion October 29, 2004. He also noted that the development of the market housing lands will incorporate sustainable development practices. In addition to incorporating environmentally friendly systems for sanitary and storm water management, each of the homes will include energy-efficient features such as ground-source geothermal heating and cooling. All homes will also include full sprinkler systems for maximum fire protection.
Denise is well informed and familiar with the SSU development, and you’ll find her to be a valuable resource (she can even give you a tour, if you’re up for a little hike!). To view campus and real estate plans, to keep abreast of SSU’s progress, and further details on the above, link to their website through SquamishRealtor.com or call Denise.

As a volunteer I get called for many great events. This was my 4th year working at Bonk Hill in the Test of Metal Mountain Bike Race—always a blast! Then, I was recruited for the BC Cup GearJammer MTB race here—again in blistering sunshine. I take my hat off to every one of those 1000+ riders. My favourite for personal reasons is the Bob McIntosh Memorial Squamish Triathlon, where for the 4th year I was timing/recording racers.
Hiking the Chief, bike riding our wonderful trails and family time on Saltspring Island filled long summer days. Fall brought a trip to Quebec for a realtors conference, then a 5 day canoe trip to Bowron Lakes with my son Scott and classmates. It was my 3rd trip and I love it.
This is my 14th year with Parent Advisory Councils (dating myself aren’t I?) and my 4th term as Chair of the District PAC for School District #48, Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton. As I reflect and plan, it is truly evident how important it is for parents to be involved in the school system. Time is always a factor and as a Mom working full-time, I know how that goes, but even small contributions of parents’ time make a difference to how the child feels about their school and how they perform.
Oh, and I’ve also been working! Squamish is experiencing tremendous change, which is bringing people from all over the world to make this home. And long-term clients keep referring their friends and family to me, which I truly appreciate. I had a great thrill this year when a client introduced me as their friend first, and then their realtor!

“If you can’t stand the heat—stay out of the kitchen.” Well after the sun-baked summer we’ve had, that’s easy for me! Thank goodness my husband BJ knows his way around a BBQ! We took the cooking outdoors, where food really does taste better, while we camped in Pacific Rim National Park. My sister and her family ventured out west to visit us on their 1st trip to BC, and it was exceptional. Together we shared the Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada, from watching the Squamish Triathlon, to white-water rafting, mountain biking, visiting the Heritage Railway Park and taking in the awesome surroundings Squamish offers. Now they want to move here! I love it, I live it and they want it!
